I am most definitely at the point in my life where my friends are all getting married and having babies. And, if you have been through that stage, you know how expensive all those baby showers can be! Everyone registers for the same stuff, and you can only buy so many bottles and wash cloths before you just can’t take it anymore! Well, good news for you, One Thimble Issue 4 features some great baby gift projects that are perfect for your upcoming showers!
I sewed up this busy block pattern by Little Moo Designs one night and I think I am addicted! It is so fun to play with different textures of fabric, different trims and come up with clever ways to make each block unique.
I chose to use some quirky fabrics I used in making a baby blanket for a friend’s newborn boy. I love mustaches and houndstooth and of course chevron! Since her baby was a wee bit too young to play with the block yet, his older brother sure enjoyed it in the meantime!
I chose to use some great trims I had around my sewing room, some satin ribbon, sheer ribbon and ric rac. I created a crinkly side by using a cut of an empty cereal bag. I love minky, and so do babies, so it became one side of the block. I added a bit of crocheted band to one side so that mom could hook the block to a link, her mommy hook or the stroller.
My favorite option was a pocket with a feltie mustache! I mean, can it get any cuter??!?!
As you can see, the busy block makes for a unique and personalized baby gift or a fun toy for young kiddos. Be sure to grab the latest issue of One Thimble Sewing E-zine and get to creating!!!
