Fun in the Sun- FINAL week of Project Run & Play

Wowzers. It’s the FINAL week of Project Run & Play and that means it’s time to see my Signature Style look, Fun in the Sun. If you’ve been following my blog, or shopping with my children’s clothing shop on Etsy and Facebook, you probably have a good idea of my signature style.

First and foremost, most of my items in my shop are inspired by my own two cuties. They definitely have a designer’s eye, and voice opinions on fabrics, styles and accessories. We seem to gravitate towards bright, cheerful prints and this signature look is no exception. I found some great Hawaiian print fabric from my local Fabric Mart that features sunshine, bicycles, fish, ice cream cones, palm trees and the text “Fun in the Sun.” K has been eyeing the fabric for months now, and I knew I just had to use it this week! I used to loathe polka dots, my mom just reminded me of that, but now they are often spotted in my shop items. My all time favorite color combo is pink and green, the brighter the better! Because the temperature here year round is usually in the 80s, I stick to outfits that are light and breezy and easy to have Fun in the Sun!

My oldest is a climber, a wild spirit and is always on the go. For her, I often make dresses that are easy to get on/off and have some form of adjustable sizing for growing room.

She loves knit bodices because they are comfy for riding in the car, easy to move in at the playground and make it easy to dress herself. She loves pink, a great trait I have passed on to her. She loves poofy skirts, ruffles and anything girly. Most of my dresses are made with her in mind, as she usually gets to keep the sample from my shop. I used some bright yellow bias tape to trim the ruffles to really help the colors to pop and the ruffles nice and fluffy!

A few months ago I was approached by Little Lizard King Patterns to join the amazing team of designers. I began brainstorming right away and decided on my first design, shown here:

The pattern will feature a drop waist knit bodice with sleeve options: short, cap, sleeveless, long, or cinched (as shown). The skirt options will be tiered ruffles (as shown), or a simple skirt. One signature detail in most of my shop items is a big bow, so of course my Signature Style look needed one! It looks cute along the neckline or at the hip.

My youngest is a clumsy, cute, sugar muffin. She loves to run, and often finds herself on the ground at some point in her adventures. She has the most darling little side dimple that makes my heart melt. For her, I love to make rompers that are so cute it makes your cheeks hurt! I love little, chubby, baby thighs and rompers are great to show off those rolls.

I love incorporating vintage influences in my shop items. I adore sweet, little collars, and the bodice from Violette Field Thread’s Ginger Pattern was the perfect starting point for my romper. I shortened the bodice, added a contrast waistband to break up the polka dots, and sewed in some super cute side ties.

I kept the romper a small bubble shape for extra sweetness without the fuss. As I mentioned before, I like big bows and I cannot lie…so I made sure to include a larger-than-life halter bow tie. I always go back to this tutorial on Tie Dye Diva’s blog to tie the most perfect bow.
