Hey there! I am so excited to be a part of a superb blog tour, and although I am coming in at the tail end I hope to WOW you with my spin on the Everyday Tank Top & Dress by Serger Pepper Patterns. It has been super fun to see each blogger’s unique and creative take on the same pattern- no two looks even close to alike! You can see the entire line up at the end of this blog post.
Let’s dive right in, aye??
I love sewing with knits and my girls love wearing them, so comfy and easy to get dressed independently. The pattern looked so versatile and an easy sew so I decided to take some creative freedom in my blog tour tank. I love that the pattern can be made in a top length, midi dress length or a maxi dress length. I may be checking the measurements for the girls size 14, I think I could use a maxi for myself! The pattern had easy-to-print pattern pieces with all the options included and taped up together in a jiffy. Irene has wonderfully written directions and great tutorials for sewing with knits, making this pattern a great beginner point. With all those options on hand, my mind was swirling with ideas!
I came across these great Big Sister and Little Sister tees Kohls and thought they would make for a great upcycle knit in this pattern.
While fabric shopping (it happens daily) my girls spotted this sparkly Anna and Elsa print woven fabric. Shrieking and swiftly plopping the bolt down on the cutting counter, I got their hint that they wanted me to sew them something with it! As I was planning out my blog tour tank, I decided to play with the woven and knit together.
I wanted the tank to have a swing top feel to it as my girls love to twirl! So I did a little pattern hacking and came out with a beautiful, A-line shape woven/knit tank.
I took the side panel pattern piece and cut it directly down the middle. I separated the two pieces by several inches to add some width to the silhouette. Taking pattern paper, I filled in the open space between my two pieces. Lastly, I used my rotary cutter to give the bottom a nice curved shape for drape and increased twirl factor. Can girls ever have too much twirl???
The store-bought (gasp) tees I used weren’t quite long enough to fill the top length of the pattern so I had to do some creative piecing of the left over strips of the tee shirt. I thought it would be cute for the top to be a bit more tunic-like so I went with a folded woven ruffle to add a bit of length and a bunch of girly flair!
My little Frozen fanatic is in love- hasn’t stopped twirling since she put the top on!
