Sew Fab Bundle: Vintage Inspired Train Case by Gingercake

Sew Fab Winter 2014 Header

Ohhhhhh you had me at vintage- this little carrying case is simply divine! I am not a huge bag maker, in fact I haven’t sewn one in years! So, when I was asked to try out some patterns featured in the winter edition of the Sew Fab Bundle Sale, this little gem caught my eye and I knew it had to go for it!

I was not familiar with Gingercake Patterns & Design, but I sure spent some time ooohing and ahhhing over all her unique and fabulous patterns featured on her fan facebook page! Be sure to stop over, leave some Lily Shine love and pick out some patterns for yourself.

During the holidays, my in laws and my family will be doing the inter-island cruise here in Hawaii. I have a slew of makeup and various toiletries that will need a cute case for while on the cruise so I am totally stoked to be rocking some handmade on the ship. This case is the perfect size- not too big and bulky but just right for storing all the must haves.

The inside features four side pockets, which I totally love. I also adore the fun pop of color I used in the binding!

There are two critical components to my morning routine- coffee and mascara- and this case is the best of both worlds! I found this adorable coffee & tea print from Joann’s quite a few years ago and have been waiting for the perfect project to take a cut. I love the colorful and quirky design. It totally perks me up while applying my makeup and sipping on my morning cup!

I sewed up the case during an afternoon naptime, aside from the hand stitching needed for the inner binding. The zipper instructions were spot on and the installation was a breeze! If you are intimidated by zippers, this is a great beginner pattern- seriously don’t be scared.

You can create this using some scraps from your stash, it really doesn’t take much fabric. Be sure to have some great fusible interfacing and some batting on hand. I found it was super fast to fuse the fabric as a whole, and then cut out the pieces as suggested in the pattern.

I’ll be sewing up some more from the bundle this week so be sure to check back! The Winter Bundle features 10 brand spankin new patterns just waiting for you to purchase and sew! Great pants, dresses, accessories and more! Any guesses what I’m tackling next???
