Before I even begin to discuss the cuteness that is the Hannah Dress by Bobkin, I have to first congratulate Jen (the mastermind behind One Thimble and Ainslee Fox Patterns) on another wonderful issue! I am so blessed to have been a part of promoting and sharing the greatness of One Thimble for the past year! Every issue continues to inspire, encourage and evoke new creativity and excitement in sewing! Way to go!!!

Let’s get down to the details of this adorable button-front dress pattern, the Hannah Dress by Bobkin:

– Sizes 1 to 8, with finished measurements and child’s measurement chart to help select the perfect size

– Imperial and Metric measurements

– Fabric requirement chart

– Easy to print and tape pattern pieces

– Fully lined bodice and collar

– Lightly gathered skirt with functional side pockets

– Enclosed waist seam for a professional and clean look even on the inside

– Digitized photos and real-life photos for the tutorial to aid in understanding of the step-by-step construction

I was able to sew this up in a matter of hours, breezing through the collar and pocket construction. My machine handled the six buttonholes and buttons wonderfully without any frustration or need for a chocolate break! I would consider this an intermediate pattern based on front button closure, pockets and collar details. This sweet dress is great for spring and summer, and would look adorable layered with long sleeves and leggings. Here on Oahu, we are blessed with 80 degree, sunny days almost every day so this dress will get lots of wear!

Now let’s take a look at this cute little dress I sewed up for my littlest, Honor.

I spotted this amazing arrow and Geometric print from Cotton + Steel at my local Fabric Mart. If you are a sewist in Hawaii, you know the struggle to get great designer prints for a reasonable price on island! I was elated!!! The only con to using this fabulous print was lining up the entire dress from top to bottom! The pattern pieces had notching guides that really came in handy!

My girls love pockets, so this dress was a winner from the get-go!

I love the sweet collar. It’s delicate yet in a bright teal kona cotton, really makes a statement! This dress has a great mature style but looks so cute on littles! The digitized photos were a bit tricky to follow when constructing the bodice and collar, I follow real-life photos better in pdf pattern tutorials. However, in the following steps, a few real life photos are shown and aid in understanding how it all comes together.

The skirt is slightly gathered, which helps to keep this dress fun and not fussy. I typically gravitate towards full and twirly skirts so this was a nice change of pace for me.

Many people shy away from buttons because either their machine doesn’t swiftly pump out perfect buttonholes or they don’t have that feature on their machine. They are truly missing out! There is something so classic and tailored about a button down dress, it really looks sleek and professional (and, well, store bought!).

It is a wonderful feeling to stay up in the wee hours of the night sewing away only to wake up to a happy faced child, thanking you over and over again for a beautiful garment! You’ll definitely get that reaction with the Hannah Dress from Bobkin.
