The Joy Dress by Violette Field Threads

Joy-3

It is no mystery that I adore Violette Field Threads. When sewing for my shop, some of their patterns are my go-to’s for a classically, vintage-inspired look. I’ve loved them since the show-stopping Emmaline released and have most of their designs in my vast collection of pdf patterns. When the opportunity to test one of their new dresses popped up, I quickly jumped on it, knowing it would be another homerun pattern that I would soon be using to fill my little’s closets for this spring and summer.

Introducing, the Joy Dress…

I would consider this pattern to for a confident beginner level of sewing skill. The elastic casings go in easily, the pattern pieces print and tape together quickly, and the detailed tutorial makes for a smooth construction.

The details and unique design of the Joy Dress & Top make for a superb spring/summer look for your little cutie. My favorite feature is the curved bodice, offering modest coverage and a unique neckline.

The side gathers allow for a full, twirly dress that is so fun and sweet!

The buttoned straps keep comfortable while sitting or riding in the car, and can be adjusted to be on the inside of the dress instead of showing on the outside.

I sewed up this tester-sample for Honor in the most glorious Cotton + Steesingle border print. Yes, I think I am slightly addicted to C + S, and there’s no turning back now that I can hoard it locally! HA! I mean, check out the amazing metallic polka dots on this dreamy mint fabric!!! SWOON.

And, of course, what would a beautiful VFT dress be without the most lovely floral crown from Moana Baby??

Joy-13

I set out for the photo shoot with full intentions to get sister shots with the Annabelle dress I made for the girls #bundleup promo and the new Joy dress. This was the best I got! There’s always next time, right???

Joy_AnnabelleIt was truly a JOY to sew these lovely new pattern designs from VFT. Be sure to hop over to their pattern shop and stock up for spring and summer!

    1. Ashley, It is a confident beginner sewing skill level. You basically are piecing together the fabric (as detailed instructions indicate how to do in the tutorial). There are no tricky techniques aside from sewing straight lines with consistent seam allowances, and gathering the skirt and straps. Other than that, it’s pretty basic!! You should give it a try, and if you get stuck, ask for help in the VFT fb group! The ladies in that group are so supportive and have great tips and tricks for sewing up the patterns.

  1. WOW!!!! You did a wonderful job of sewing those beautiful dresses and displaying the patterns with your beautiful pictures!! I really love the way you showed and explained the curved bodice and step by step what to expect from the pattern itself!! The fabrics are gorgeous and I can’t wait to see what you sew up next!! Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful creations!!
