As promised, I’m back this week to share my favorite fabrics and patterns for fall!!! I love fall sewing- the deeper hues in the fabrics, the basic silhouettes of back to school dresses and the excitement of mixing and matching pieces to create a nice, handmade wardrobe!
I know many designers, myself included, are in the planning/testing phase of fall patterns so we’ll take a look at some of my faves from last year. But, leave some room in your pattern stash for the upcoming releases because I know you’re going to LOVE them!!!
Let’s first talk fall fabrics!! After doing some color trend research, I found that fall/winter color trends for kids are soft pink, cream, blue-gray, eggplant, rich brown and sand.
The best, fastest and easiest way to shop for fabric based on a color palette is to hop over to my friends at Hawthorne Threads and use their Color Grid.
Some of my favorite, new prints for fall following the color trends are linked below by color. Click the photos below to take you to my Fall Fabrics & Patterns Pinterest board. Then click each pin to shop and see coordinating prints!

And now let’s take a look at some really fabulous fall patterns to get your Back to School wardrobes started! I’m breaking the patterns down by age group so you can see what will be most appropriate (and preferred) by your little or big girl!!! You can click the image to shop for the pattern.
Pre-School age (0 – 4 years old)
Although these kiddos may or may not be “in school” it is still fun to dress them up! I love the Nora dress because it comes with a short and 3/4 puffed sleeve, which means it is perfect for year-round use. The vintage style is great for back to school photos and really showcases fun school-themed fabrics well. Gemma is a darling set that includes a top and a skirt. The delicate collar gives the preppy vibe and the skirt is perfect for twirling!

Early Elementary (5-8 years old)
The coveted first day of Kindergarten calls for an extra special outfit! The ruffles on Clara are simply TDF and with the sleeve add on pack, you can make this look for all weather conditions! Emma is great for a more sophisticated style and comes with several options!

Late Elementary/Early Middle (9-14 years old)
I love these two tween styles that are available in girls’ sizing as well. Pepper is a classic for sure, that even the older girls love! Maisie has great style with the trendy tie sleeve and scoop back.

Well I hope you’re feeling inspired and ready to get shopping and planning for a fabulous, handmade wardrobe!! I’d love to hear your favorites for this upcoming season. Just drop me a comment!
What a great guide and I saw some fabrics I don’t have ( gasp I know?) and my girls love (!!!!) blue-greys so thanks to you I went on a shopping spree lol ( bill forthcoming).
Thanks for sharing your vision xo
Happy shopping and happy sewing, my friend!
Thank you Cassie! Love this post! I will certainly be using some of the new Art Gallery fabrics for Fall sewing.
There are so many great new collections coming!!!
