Nellie x Clover Mashup: Spunkin Honeyhead Fabrics

Nellie x Clover Pattern Mashup for Spunkin Honeyhead Fabrics

April Showers brings May Flowers…but I’m an overachiever and pretty impatient so April Showers, Flowers and Gingham it is! My friends at the Spunkin Honeyhead Fabrics asked if I would sew up something fun with a few of their new knits and I couldn’t resist! With this recent rush of warm weather and lots of sunshine, I had the perfect summer top in mind. Let’s take a look at the fabrics and what I sewed up!

Watercolor Florals and Gingham

I was sent the mint watercolor floral and purple gingham knit fabrics. I love how soft and smooth the knit was and it really sewed up nicely! If you saw my post on Instagram, you know my trick on getting this nice hem for our knit tops! The knit has the right stretch needed for the patterns I chose, and just the right amount of stretch to make neck and arm binding instead of using the french bias method in the pattern.

If you aren’t familiar with custom knit groups, most release fabric orders in “rounds” so be sure to grab some of the watercolor floral during the pre-order sale  before it closes on 5/2/19.

Nellie x Clover Mashup

I love the tie top trend right now- it just screams summer and picnics and a hint of vintage goodness. I also love the new Nellie pattern from Violette Field Threads as a super easy and fast sew! I decided the Clover (also VFT) tie detail would be an easy add on to the classic silhouette of Nellie.

To make the mashup happen, I simply placed the Clover tie piece on top of the Nellie front piece.

I aligned the width of the Clover tie piece to fit the width of Nellie, and just taped the Clover tie to the Nellie and cut. For the Misses top, I used the Clover Tween piece. The next time I make this mashup, I will extend the ties just a bit more to allow for a bigger tie.

I omitted the tie facing because I was worried it would add too much bulk to the bottom of the top so I applied some SoftStretch hem tape and just turned up the raw edges. I used my coverstitch machine to secure the hem.

I sewed the kids top with flutter sleeve option but kept the misses top super simple. I adore this set and so does my girl!
