I’m back with another round of vacation photos! The first set was taken at a cute little greenhouse on the campus of The University of Scranton mid-road trip. I must have been missing the heat and sun of southern California but boy did we feel it in that greenhouse! The second set was taken around the corner of our hotel in Midtown, NYC just before we went to see Aladdin on Broadway. It was a spectacular show!!!
Our sweet friends at Hawthorne Supply Co. reached out a few weeks before our vacation to see if I wanted to sew up some Southport dresses using one of their new collections, Baja Sur by Hey Miss Designs. They know my love for green and tropical fabrics! Let’s take a look at what I sewed up:
I have admired the Southport dress pattern by True Bias for quite some time. I guess this collaboration was just the push I needed to get the pattern and sew it up! And, I am SO happy with how these dresses turned out! The Southport Dress has an above-the-knee option that is perfect for a hot summer day.
I love the button front bodice, its very on trend right now! (PS. I worked hard for that fabric placement on the placket- giving myself a high five on that one!!!)
The waist becomes gathered with the functional drawstrings for a comfortable and easy fit. And, it has pockets!
The vine print from the Baja Sur collection is in a few of my favorite shades of green! I thought the plants in the greenhouse complemented the print nicely.
A main print from the collection featured these fun papayas on an avocado green background and I was in love! Max love for this Southport Maxi!!!!
A closer look at the fabric- how gorgeous are these colors?!? I sewed both dresses with HSC rayon, which is the perfect weight and drape for this style!
Two favorite features on this maxi dress: the split front center and POCKETS. Talk about comfortable fashion!
Two adjustments I’ll make to the Southport pattern next time I sew it up: Reduce width of the front bodice at the center since I found the shoulders to be a tad wide and the front a little gape-y. Raise the split front up just a tad so it allows for more movement and a bit more drama. You know I love some drama! Plus I can show of my aging, wrinkly knees more, right?? OYE.
Big thanks to our friends at Hawthorne Supply Co for gifting the two prints, and to Hey Miss Designs for creating such fun fabrics!
And, another shout out to my amazing photog! When I asked her to stand in to check the light, she quickly said “This is my favorite!!!” I guess I know her signature pose 😉
